Snake Corps / Sad Lovers and Giants galore...

The Snake Corps - Smother Earth(1990)

Sad Lovers and Giant - Colourless Dream EP(1982)

Sad Lovers and Giant - Epic Garden Music(1982)

The Snake Corps were an early 80's rock band from UK. They formed after the dissolution of the equally brilliant Sad Lovers and Giant(which is up on the queue on my "forgotten 80's post punk bands" salvation plan), and released four albums and one "very best of" before splitting up in 1993.

The Frozen Autumn - Fragments of memory

The Frozen Autumn - Fragments of Memory

Italian darkwave the way it should be done. I have been quite a fan for years and "Fragments of Freedom" is definitely my favorite album from them.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming

Kate Bush - The Dreaming

Even though I've heard about Kate Bush a gazillion times, I'm relatively new to her music. Besides "The Dreaming" and "Hounds of Love", she remains unknown to me, and I must say that it has been more of an acquired taste than anything. But her voice is haunting, and the music eccentric and obscure. But then again anything was allowed in the 80's. And that's why I love it.

Enjoy!

Oh, feed me, cause I need you to...

Adorable - Fake

Adorable were a British alternative rock band active in the 1990s. They formed in Coventry in 1991, and consisted of band members Piotr Fijalkowski (vocals, guitar), Robert Dillam (guitar), Steven Wil Williams (bass), and Kevin Gritton (drums). Highly underrated, indeed.

Enjoy! :)

Oh how we danced...

One of the happiest days in my life happens to be July 5, 2008. 5 hours earlier I arrived to Atlanta, all by myself, and dropped my stuff in the seediest motel I have ever been. I drove the rented royal blue Prius around the city, in order to buy some groceries and waste time more than anything, in order to be early at the Fox Theatre for the event. At 9:30pm, the lights dimmed, and the tall, slim man with a fedora hat stood in front of the microphone. Once he opened his mouth and started growling, I knew I was not gonna be the same. Ever.

The mad hatter and his band played on for about 2 and a half hours. They never got tired. He made jokes, danced and stomped around, and was in his usual wacko personna. I laughed, I cried, and wanted it never to end. It was that magical. NPR was awesome enough to record the entire concert, which I've relived dozens of times ever since, but some smart dude in Barcelona also recorded the concert he played in July 17 in that Spanish city, and that's what I'm offerring to everyone here.

Click for one of the greatest albums ever!!!

"There was nothing in the world that I ever wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart. There was nothing in the world that I never wanted more than to ever feel the breaking apart of my pictures of you...". It kills me everytime I listen to this song.

Miracle of Love...

Today is a good day for some of us music fans. It has been announced that legendary cult band Swans, one of the pivotal acts coming from the early 80's NYC noise rock scene, will reunite(sans singer Jarboe, or at least for now), and will be recording a new album and touring the States. That only points to one well-known fact: the Apocalypse is near, very near.

White Light from the Mouth of Infinity - Pt. 2

Children of God

Very few songs makes me shiver after listening to it for the 238,473,679,998,752th time, and "Failure" is certainly one of them.

Enjoy(or at least try, they are not for everyone!). ;)

Fricción // Consumación o Consumo

Even though it's everyone's knowledge that Argentina has been one of othe major producer of Rock bands in Latin America, to think that they had an impressive New Wave scene is relatively new to me. Yes, everyone who speaks Spanish knows Soda Stereo(even people who loathes Rock, like reggaeton fans, who knows "De Música Ligera" and butchers it everytime it's played in karaoke), but bands like Virus, Los Pillos, Sobrecarga, or G.I.T., to say a few, never really made it outside their mainland. Or at least to this lovely island called Macondo.

Fricción was one of those bands. Formed in 1985 and having Soda's frontman, Gustavo Cerati, as one of their producers and instrumentalist in their beginnings , it's impossible to deny the resemblances and how good they actually were. A nice fanpage and this link to their first album, "Consumación o Consumo", shall prove my point.

Enjoy! :)

Radio, live transmission...

One of my fave songs ever, and Peter Hook is pretty much my main influence as a bassist. :)

"O Pamela you have everything, everything you bargained for..."

As some may know, The Factory was a Mancunian record label that remained active for nearly 30 years. Founded in 1978 by British TV personality Tony Wilson, it helped to launch the musical career of many New Wave and Post Punk bands that were pivotal an influential for the movement and Pop music as well, being New Order, Joy Division, Durutti Column, and Cabaret Voltaire amongst the most popular. It also helped to develop the "Madchester" scene early in the 80's. "The Factory Box Set" compiles 66 singles from their most prominent bands, and was released in US in 2008 as 4-disc collection. Here is disc #1.

Enjoy!

The Chameleons UK // Tripping Dogs

(LOVE this song to pieces.)

One of my favorite bands ever. "Tripping Dogs" is not a bootleg but it's a rather rare to find live album edited and released in 1990. The Chameleons UK were a brilliant Mancunian band that developed an atmospheric sound that revolved around well-written lyrics and Mark Burgess powerful voice. Sadly, like many bands in this genre, it was highly overlooked in the 80's, even though it remains as a cult fave for all of us post punkers at heart.

Enjoy! ;)

Massive Attack + Hope Sandoval = Paradise Circus

First single from Massive Attack's upcoming album, "Heligoland". It features former Mazzy Star frontgirl, Hope Sandoval, who recently released her second solo album, "Through the Devil Softly". Needless to say, the track is gloomy and Hope's voice, ethereal.

Enjoy! :)

Ring Ring

In the late 1970s, D.C.-based band Urban Verbs was snapped up by a major label to become the "next big thing" in the burgeoning New Wave scene. It was a demo tape produced by Brian Eno that got them the attention of Warner Bros. However, after two albums, the label unceremoniously dropped Urban Verbs and the band broke up soon thereafter.

Yep, it is very good.

Enjoy! ;)

Portishead .// Chase the Tear

"Chase the Tear" is a collaboration by Bristol trip-hop legendary group Portishead for the celebration of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was issued in 1948, and compromised the countries involved in both World Wars to protect and respect the rights and equality of every citizen.Even though Portishead has long walked away from their early gritty sound, Beth Gibbon's voice makes everything worth listening, and the track can be downloaded here.

Enjoy! ;)

RRRRRRR

Considered one of the oldest Goth bands in South America, RRRRRRR formed in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1987 and remains quite active in the Southern hemisphere. I really like how effortless and true their sound is to what 80's and early 90's goth used to be, which is obviously influenced by bands like The Mission UK, Sisters of Mercy, Rosetta Stone, Nosferatu and the likes. And what I like most is that they are kind enough to give away all of their albums here.

Enjoy!. ;)

And to think their frontman helped to write that effin' "She Wolf" song...

Surely one of the lesser known yet-still-alive New York post punk revivalists, The Bravery have released three albums, "Stir the Blood" being the recent one. They've stuck to their post punk/new wave roots throughout, and while they lack innovation, it's a fun listen.

Enjoy!

Peter Murphy makes me want to drink your blood(cliché I know, haha...)

Bonus cd released for free by Beggars Banquet when pre-ordering both (bulked together) the Omnibus editions of In The Flat Field & Mask.
It features remixes, rare studio recordings and 80's live acts and needless to say, it fucking owns.

"i do get bored, i get bored, in the flat fieeeellllddd...."

Enjoy! ;)

I found myself in the hothouse,,,

This being the first post of a blog that I certainly want to make an outlet for all the music I love and obsess about, I wanted to start with something not only strong, but pivotal to what [..thefaerygothmoter..] is intended to be. A band that never gained too much importance until recently, when Renascent Records picked up their catalog and reissued a few concerts, British post punk band The Sound was too good to suffer such fate. A powerful mix between Joy Division, Echo and The Bunnymen, and The Comsat Angels, they relied in thundering basslines, jangling guitars, and bleak lyrics from a frontman that was plagued with mental illness. "In The Hothouse", a 1985 live recording from two gigs in London, may never be a mainstream classic, but in my personal collection stands very, very near to the top.

The Sound - In The Hothouse
